Pioneer DVD-V7200 Useage with Visual Database Systems SuperBox II June 15, 1999 John Blakney Visual Database Systems (831) 439-6890 The current version SuperBox II (2.18) is compatible with the Pioneer DVD-V7200 with the following known exception: 1. Frame Query (?F) commands fail because the player now returns 7 digits thanks to the increased number of frames possible on DVD. Workaround: use Time Query (?T) instead. The 7200 needs setup as follows using the remote control: (Initial menu) 1. Set Background Color to be black (unless you like the turquoise! or want another color for some unknown reason). HOWTO: During player STOP, press MENU momentarily on the remote. Select Initial setup, ENTER. Select B.G.COLOR, ENTER. Set the three sliders to far left for black. Press ENTER to save the selection. Be sure the menu screen is closed for the selection to be remembered. (Advanced menu) 2. Set Power On Start to ON. 3. Confirm baud rate setting is 4800 (factory default). HOWTO: Press and hold the remote's MENU button for about 2 seconds until the "MENU page 1/2" display shows. Use the up/down buttons on the remote to select POWER ON START, use the left/right buttons to set to ON. Verify that the BAUD RATE is set to 4800. Press MENU again to save the settings and make the screen go away. On the SBII programming side, I think that letting the SuperBox handle the video blanking is the best technique. VIDEO PRODUCTION NOTE: I recommend that you provide black frames at the beginning and end of search points so that you can make searches look clean. You can get away with not doing the video blanking if there is black video on the disc. Here is a sample SBII program that uses time query and blanks video: User input is button number 1 Relays are on output numbers 0 and 1 that turn on and off with the program Button 0 sets relay 0 off (high) and relay 1 on (low) and sets the display registers for time/frame and chapter numbers visible. Use 0RA instead of 3RA for hiding the frame/time/chapter #s. Execution goes to a loop on button 5.
